It also fulfills the intended cultural heritage and appreciation which we will be discussing and learning more about today.

Origins of Indian Fashion

The origins of Indian fashion can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where clothing was an expression of cultural, social, and religious identity.  Just like other cultures over the years, Indian fashion had evolved, with the biggest factors being the influence of colonialism, globalization and rise of Bollywood.

The traditional Indian attire called “Saree” and “Lehenga Choli” are among the most prominent of these fashion styles. Their rich history goes back to the Indus Valley Civilization, and have been worn for thousands of years. The Saree is also considered to be one of the oldest forms of clothing in the world, and has been worn by women for centuries as a symbol of femininity and grace.

During the colonial period, Indian fashion was influenced by British styles and tastes, leading to the creation of “fusion wear”, which combines traditional Indian designs with some western aesthetics. This style was further made popular through Bollywood trends, which has become a global cultural phenomenon, influencing fashion and beauty trends around the world, resulting in a modernized and globalized style, making their way to the international market as well.

Traditional Indian styles continue to play a significant role in the country’s fashion scene, with many designers incorporating traditional elements into their modern designs.

Popular Traditional Indian Fashion Styles

Indian fashion has been on the rise globally. And with the country’s traditional attire, contemporary designs, and intricate embellishments garnering a lot of attention, women in India have always had a love for clothing that’s both comfortable and stylish.

The fashion scene has only gotten better over the years. From ethnic wear to fusion wear, here are some of the latest trends in Indian fashion for women

Saree

The Saree is the foremost traditional garment worn by women in India. It is a long piece of cloth, typically 6 to 9 yards in length, that is wrapped around the body and worn over a petticoat and a blouse. The saree is usually draped over the left shoulder and the fabric is then tucked into the waistband at the back, while the other end is allowed to hang loose and form a pleated or flowing skirt. Sarees come in a variety of materials, including silk, cotton, and chiffon, and can be decorated with intricate embroidery, beading, or other embellishments.

In recent years, sarees have undergone a style revolution and are now available in a wide range of modern styles and designs. While traditional sarees still remain popular, contemporary sarees often feature updated fabrics, brighter colors, and more daring draping styles.
